About E-Cigarettes
An e-cigarette (aka electronic cigarette or vaping device) is a hand held battery-operated device that delivers vapour from heating a nicotine-based solution otherwise known as e-liquid.
Devices come in many variations; however, there are some shared components. Most e-cigarettes usually have the following components; a battery, a tank (clearomizer or cartomizer), and an atomizer.
There are currently three device generations available on the market and Liberty Flights sells 2nd and 3rd generations.
• 1st generation devices resemble the look of cigarettes (aka ‘cig-a-likes’). They contain an automatic battery (90 or 120 mAh) with a short charge time and small cartomizer.
• 2nd generation devices consist of a manual, higher-capacity battery (650 - 1600 mAh) and charged by USB. These provide a longer life span, more vapour production and a better throat hit. The e-liquid can be refilled in the clearomizer. There is also an additional safety on/off feature. There is a wide choice of atomizers or clearomizers that are available for this type of device.
• 3rd generation devices (aka ‘Mods’ from modifications). Mod devices come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. They can be typified by their larger battery capacity and tend to be used by people who explore the notion of the devices using larger tanks and lower resistance atomizers thus producing higher volumes of vapour.
Batteries come in all sorts of sizes but every battery has the same function which is to supply the power to the atomizer, which in turn heats the coil and produces vapour. Most devices sold by Liberty Flights are turned on/off by quickly clicking the LED button 3 or 5 times. Batteries can vary in power and also how they are controlled. Most eGo style batteries have a power output of 3.7 volts, whereas mods (for the advanced users) can vary the power (voltage) or Wattage (electrical power expressed in watts). Below are some phrase you will come across when choosing a vaping device.
mAh - Means Milliamps per hour and refers to the battery capacity (or how much energy they can store). The higher the mAh, the longer the battery will last between charges.
Variable Voltage Power - Some batteries have a Variable Voltage (VV) option. You can set the voltage of the battery and control the amount of power coming from it. This allows you to use different resistance atomizers and still get the desired throat hit and vapour production by adjusting the power.
Variable Wattage Power - Variable Wattage (VW) allows you to control how many watts your device will produce. Variable wattage will allow you to set the wattage, no matter what resistance atomizer you use with the device. If you set it to a desired wattage, it will always give you the same outcome no matter what resistance atomizer you use.
All our Vaping Kits will come with a charger which is suitable for that device. Always use the charger provided with the device. Incorrect or incompatible chargers or wall plugs (such as ipad chargers) can result in failure as the amperage may be too high.
A clearomizer or tank are basically the same and are the parts that you fill with e-liquid. They consist of an atomizer (sometimes replaceable) and a tank that holds the e-liquid. The atomizer is the heating element that produces vapour. It consists of a wire or milled metal that is wrapped around a wicking material such as organic cotton that soaks up the e-liquid. The wire receives a current from the battery, which in turn heats up and vaporizes the e-liquid. The amount of vapour produced will depend on the battery power as well as the atomizers resistance/ohms. Ohms is a measure of electrical resistance or how freely electricity is able to travel through something. The lower the number (0.5 ohms) the hotter the atomizer will heat up. The higher the number (1.8 ohms) the cooler the vape will be.
There are typically 4 components in e-liquids:
• Propylene glycol (PG) - provides a bigger throat hit and a stronger flavour.
• Vegetable glycerine (VG) - provides more vapour, a sweeter taste but subtle flavour.
• Flavouring - available in a wide range of varieties.
• Nicotine - available in 0%, 0.3% 0.6%, 1.2%, 1.8% and 2.0%
Our PG, VG and nicotine are pharmaceutical grade and the flavourings used are food grade. Our XO e-liquids consist of a 50-50 PG/VG base for a balanced throat hit and vapour production. We also offer VG heavy e-liquids too, for those who are sensitive to PG or just want to create plumes of vapour.
There are not any ‘rights’ or ‘wrongs’ when it comes to choosing e-liquid or e-cigarettes. The key is finding the right combination that will enable you to feel comfortable and satisfied. Increasing the nicotine percentage increases the throat hit to further tailor your vaping experience.
E-liquids exposed to heat, light and air during storage will darken in colour over time due to photo-oxidation. This process will not affect the nicotine potency and has little effect on the vapour and flavour. Keeping your e-liquid stored in dark, cool and dry conditions will slow down this process though. We give our e-liquids a 2 year best before date as our data from extensive stability testing has shown that our XO e-liquids has shown that the nicotine will stay within the expected concentration.
On average, a vaper will go through about 3ml of e-liquid per day but this is very device dependant and will vary on each individual vaper.
Disposal: You can dispose of your e-liquid in the bin by pouring it into a plastic bag containing absorbent cat litter. Alternatively, return it to Head Office. Always treat your e-liquid as medical waste and do not allow it to pollute the environment.
Benefits
There is evidence that e-cigarettes do not contain the 4000+ harmful poisons (such as tar) found in traditional tobacco cigarettes. Many smokers find that the electronic cigarette offers a viable alternative to using actual cigarettes and may prefer to use electronic cigarettes and e-liquid.
E-cigarettes are much cheaper than cigarettes. The set-up price of vaping may be a little higher than an average packet of traditional cigarettes, but the month-to-month cost is much less. The savings will depend on device type, vaping frequency and e-liquid.

On average a pack of 20 traditional tobacco cigarettes cost £13, lasting on average 1-2 days.
The initial purchase of a vaping kit costs around £22 and only £4.99 per bottle of e-lqiuid after that. With each bottle of e-lqiuid lasting 3 days, the runing costs of vaping over smoking is drastically different and could save you thousands of pounds over the year.

Troubleshooting
Check to see if the battery needs to be charged. Each type of battery has a different charge cycle. Check the User manual provided with your Kit for specific instructions.
If the button on your battery does not light up when pressed it may be that the battery is turned off. Most batteries have a three or five click activation, this means if you press the button three or five times in quick succession, this will activate the battery, or switch it off. Switching the battery off (by clicking three or five times) when being stored in a pocket or hand bag is recommended.
The flashing light at the top of the device, indicates that the battery is low and needs to be recharged.
If you notice your e-liquid tastes chemically or different to normal, it's nothing to worry about. Shake your e-liquid bottle for 30 seconds to remix your e-liquid.
Vaping is different to smoking and there is often a period of time where one needs to get used to the different sensation. You could be PG intolerant, so try switching to an e-liquid with a higher VG concentration. Another option is to select a lower nicotine concentration.
A-Z Vaping
ADV – Acronym for ‘All-day vape’ - an e-liquid that you don't tire of using on a daily basis.
APV – Acronym for ‘Advanced personalised vapourizer’, a term recognized in the electronic cigarette industry as a more accurate name for modern day devices used for vaporizing e-liquid.
Atomizer - The atomizer is the heating element that produces vapour. These generally need a cartridge to hold the e-liquid, but there are different types of these, including dripping atomizers and rebuild-able atomizers.
BCC - Bottom Coil Clearomizer (such as Kanger Protank, Mini Protank, EVOD, T3D, etc.). The atomizer coil sits at the bottom of the clearomizer tank near to the battery connection.
Battery – A battery is the component that supplies the current (power) to heat the atomiser which in turn will vapourize the e-liquid. They contain a sealed rechargeable battery cell that are charged generally through the threading part of the battery.
Clearomizer / Cartomizer – A clearomizer has an atomizer and a tank that holds the e-liquid. These can also be referred to as ‘tanks’.
Direct Lung Inhale (DLI) – A direct lung inhale involves drawing the vapour straight down into the lungs. This menthod of vaping is more commonly used when sub-ohming.
E-Cig – Shortened terminology for ‘e-cigarette’.
510/eGo Connection - This refers to the type of threading a battery has, where the clearomizer /atomizer connects. A 510 fitting is the industry standard fitting and will fit a clearomizer with a protruding 510 post via the inner threading of the battery. The eGo fitting is the outer threading of the battery that allows clearomizers with a skirting (a hidden post) to screw onto the outside of the battery connection.
Juice – Juice, or e-juice, are names some people generally refer to for e-liquid. It consists of a Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), flavourings and nicotine.
Ohms/Resistance - ohms is a measure of electrical resistance or how freely electricity is able to travel through something. The lower the number (0.5 ohms) the hotter the clearomizer will burn. The higher the number (1.8 ohms) the cooler the vape will be.
mAh - Means Milliamps per hour and refers to the battery capacity. The higher the mAh, the longer the battery will last between charges.
Mouth To Lung (MTL) – This is when you take the vapour into your mouth first, before inhaling it in to the lungs. It’s similar to sucking on a straw, you take a long draw and let your mouth fill with vapour first.
Pass-through - An alternate way of powering a battery or mod. They are connected directly to a power source via a USB lead. They can usually be used whilst charging. Some pass-through batteries do not have internal battery cells so will need a direct power source to work, others have a battery cell that will hold a charge so you can take the device out and about.
PG - Propylene Glycol (PG) is a base used in e-liquid. It carries flavourings well and gives the user a greater throat hit.
Sub-ohming - This is just a way to get more power using 3.7v by making a coil of less than 1 Ohm resistance for your device. As above, as you lower resistance you increase current (the fabled Ohm's law) so you need to be sure that your batteries can handle the extra drain. This gives you faster and more intense vapour production. There are dangers of draining the battery too much and cause it to vent. If you do decide you want to sub-ohm, then the safety aspect to do this would be to use a multi-meter so you don’t destroy your items.
Throat Hit – This is a term commonly referred to as the feeling you get in the back of your throat when you inhale, replicating the feeling you get when smoking conventional cigarettes.
Variable Voltage Power - Some batteries have a Variable Voltage (VV) option. You can set the voltage of the battery and control the amount of power coming from it. This allows you to use different resistance atomizers or cartomizers and still get the desired throat hit and vapour production by adjusting the power.
Variable Wattage Power - Variable Wattage (VW) allows you to control how many watts your device will produce. Variable wattage will allow you to set the wattage, no matter what resistance atomizer or cartomizer you use with the device. If you set it to a desired wattage, it will always give you the same desired outcome no matter what resistance atomizer you use.
VG - Vegetable Glycerin (VG) is a base used in e-liquid. It is a sweeter base and gives the user more vapour. It is usually an option for people sensitive to Propylene Glycol (PG).
Wick - Parts that holds e-liquid will have at least one wick – some have more. The wicks can be silica, cotton, stainless steel mesh and other materials that soak up the e-liquid. These are wrapped inside a coil where it is heated and the e-liquid turned into vapour.
